Default How is a modern bagger stolen?

This is not intended as a how to. But, I’m thinking how to best secure my bike in a sketchy area while traveling, I thought it might be useful to understand how one of our recent model baggers, like my ‘17 EG Ultra Limited is stolen.

The bike has the factory security, and locking fork, and ignition. I’ve seen where 4 guys with 2x4s can use them to lift and put a sport bike into a pickup truck. But, I don’t see how they could do that with a 900# bagger.

So, based upon your understanding, how are baggers stolen?

And then, obviously how do you prevent it?

Oh yeah…if a pro wants your bike, they probably have methods. So,I’m thinking more about opportunists…and maybe still just making it a bit more difficult for pros.

Please focus on how they are stolen…not pay your insurance, park in your room, tie a rabid Doberman to your bike, etc.

Get a bike cover that says Honda Rebel 250 on it.

900 lbs with 4 guys on each corner in theory 225 pounds each...or a lift / drag onto a low trailer, even laid gently on its side would work...

Pick the areas you are staying in carefully.

Pick a parking place close, with lights and hopefully cameras.

Hopefully you are sleeping close enough to hear the security siren if it goes off.

I strongly believe a cover over a bike is a huge deterrent. They don't know what under there and hopefully it will raise suspension if someone is messing with it. Years ago a guy I knew had a devise that he ran under the bike to connect to each side of his cover near the floorboards. If you tried to pull the cover off you would pull one end out of this device and it screamed. It was so lud it would wake the dead. I wish I could find one of those.

I think a GPS tracking device on a bike is a good investment also.

2 guys can slide it or pull it into a trailer. TOO easy. If someone wants the bike it.s gone. Two guys can also lift the front wheel into a chock on a dolly, bike in neutral, Bye Bye.
To answer the OPs question, parking next to someting with the front wheel locked helps a little.
Also if they are good and you never changed the security code 11111 is pretty easy too.

A thief is a thief, I always told myself if my bike or truck gets stolen, I don't ever want to see them again.

When traveling by myself, I have 3 things for security besides the H-D security -
1. Disc rotor lock
2. Cable lock to a parking lot sign, like a handicap sign
3. Use a tracker. This is what I use, and it will call my phone within 1 min when the alarm goes off.

Hopefully the first 2 will deter, but if they get it I'll know where the bike is going in real time.

Use a Cobra links or good cable lock to secure it to something solid - or lock 2 bikes together - make a big package.
In years past 4 guys with 2 iron pipes - one through each wheel would load the bike into the back of a van . They were quick - They didn't care about scratching the bike - if you were more then a few feet away the only way to stop them was to shoot a couple of them.
They also found containers full of bike at the docks - headed for Europe
