So hopefully somebody sees this soon, Im going to the bank to pick up the cash for a 2010 police bike that has 41,000 miles on it really only two owners, The civilian owner did some police by competition with this bike, so he upgraded the brakes and the front shocks, but otherwise stock, and completely maintained by a local HD dealer. Or I can pick up a 2001 police bike with 13,000 miles and pretty much unmolested For the same money, leaning toward the 2010, what say ye all.
Go for the 2010 model. Better frame, better engine, better transmission, better everything. 41,000 miles is no big deal if its been serviced and maintained properly.
Thew 2010 is a better bike, in many ways..... BUT... if it was a police service bike, it has probably led a hard life...
The police competitions are HARD on the clutch.....
Every police department is different, but.......
I worked as an LEO for a large SoCal PD for 31 years... I was never a motor officer, but had numerous close friends on motors... The PD had a shop dedicated to just the maintenance and repair of our motorcycle fleet... I believe we had around 60 bikes...
You couldn't give me one of our service bikes....

Its really a crap shoot if you get a civilian or police bike. Ive had 2 police bikes and neither gave me an issue. Now I have a 13 RK standard and its the best of the 3 Road King's Ive had. Love the 180 rear tire too.

Why the rush, personally I'd stay away from the police bike, and would stay away from the 01 for the reasons other have indicated. Just my 2˘
thanks for all the input, looking forward to having a big bike,,,

The bike you love is the bike you should buy.
Every model year has positives and negatives.
She is going to get your money so why buy a bike you dont like?
For those that say they feel the frame flexes on older models I say show me where it flexes and I will show you a crack. (No not that crack)
Frame cracks on older models is not an issue, worn tires, swing arm bushings, and mis-alignment are. Incidentally they are a problem on any motorcycle.
