M8 road glide 2017 107ci I believe my clutch is slipping more so in upper gears. Am looking for recommendations for plates/springs (other than Harley) to rebuild clutch. I am planning on installing a stage II later with a 475 cam but don't need anything competition just something to last.
Thanks in advance
I know you said other than Harley, but really, the 1200 or 1275 springs are a huge upgrade from the stock springs. My '18 clutch was slipping pretty bad (FLHP with 4800 miles that were apparently all slow-speed maneuvers riding the clutch), so I put in new plates and 1200 springs. Huge difference and improvement. I have the Wood 22X cam, along with an air cleaner, exhaust, and Power Vision. It was all smooth and easy, as well as the new clutch, without having to remove the primary cover.
Plenty of power and plenty of clutch! If you're leery about the 1200 springs, go with the 1275 springs. Since we have the hydraulic clutch, the lever effort had a minimal increase with the 1200 springs. The 1275 springs would likely be unnoticeable over the 1200, with a little more clutch hold.
A lot can be done with just a clutch spring change....
You don't mention miles on your clutch, but a newer clutch slipping with few miles, is usually an adjustment, increased wear from a very hard riding style, or too much power for the spring... of course, it could always be something is bad/failing in the clutch...
On my twin cam, I installed a crate engine that makes 135HP/151TQ... I did it at 20K miles... I'm still using the OEM clutch plates and basket.. I added a stiffer clutch spring and AIM variable pressure plate... I don't race, nor do I drive it hard, but I am "playful" from time to time... The OEM clutch plates are handling the increased power just fine...
If I were to start using all that power on a continual basis, I would upgrade the clutch basket and clutch, but for my riding style, it's just not necessary at this point...
