Default Pre-Wired Bars (Installation)

On my first 2011 glide I ordered regular Paul Yafee Monkey Bars, which my installer said were a 6 hour nightmare including the heated grips. This time I ordered the pre-wired version of the same bars for my 22 RG and intend to run them with HD heated grips. Will them being pre-wired really make that much of a difference in install time?

I also just ordered prewired Monkey bars, being an Irishman, I have no patience.
I refuse to try to run those wires through the bars myself.
(although mine is a 07 with cables and wires)

Pre-wired will save some time, but wiring a canbus bike like your 2022 is far easier than one of the older non-canbus bikes like your 2011....

I did bars on my 2012 Limited (non-canbus) and then on my 2016 Ultra Classic (canbus).... The difference was substantial...

On the pre-canbus bikes, you need to remove the pins from the connectors, run the wires, then re-pin the connector. There were always stories about people mixing up the pins and having issues after the re-pin. I took pics AND drew myself diagrams.. I lucked out.

On the canbus bikes, there are connectors that attach under the fairing, and the other end of the wires have mini-connectors (which can be threaded through the bars intact) that then connect to the switch-paks.

On my canbus bike, I chose not to use any extensions... I bought longer wire harnesses for the switch-paks, from Namz. They plug in the OEM places, but are just longer.. I believe they support up to 14" apes...

The brake stuff is easy, just do a good bleed if changing brake lines...

Two other things can make the wire job easy or a nightmare....

The shape of the bars and the quality of the bars...

Shape: Many like the bars with pointy bends, and they are a little harder to feed wires through than the older style round bar bends..

Quality: A quality made bar will be easier to feed wires through and there will be far less chance of slag or unfinished surfaces that can hurt wires as they are being fed through the bars..

I am a fan of Wild Ones Chubby bars... I have used them on my '12 Limited, '16 Classic, and my '01 Springer... three different bikes, three different bars, all very good quality and fairly easy to run the wires internally...

You bought the bars pre-wired, so it should be an easy install...

If you should need to do it again, I would suggest doing it yourself. I found the canbus bikes much easier, and saved a bunch of money over a friend who ordered pre-wired bars...

Like MURPHCC1, my friend doesn't have a lot of patience...
