Default Electraglide spark issue

I have a 97 electraglide with the magnetti marrelli system (I know it sucks) but I have been having issues with loss of spark while riding. Pulled my plugs after work today and they are orange. Would that be module, coil or intake causing that? Thanks in advance for any help. I am new to motorcycle motors so any help is appreciated

In lots of years I have never seen anything like that before. Are you using any fuel additives? Are those the recommended plugs? Wondering about heat range.

They are the same replacement plugs that were in the bike when I got it. Direct from harley but just replacing what was in there

Replaced plugs with the same that was in it. Randomly cuts out for a second or 10 then runs normal. Love riding but bike is to heavy to push on a trailer by myself lol

What make and number are those plugs....???

The standard Harley plug for an 80" EVO is a #5R6A ....

Other popular replacements are:

Champion #RN12YC
Screamin' Eagle #EVS13S
Autolite #4265
AC Delco #R44NS
NGK #BPR5ES-11


In any case, I doubt the plugs are a causing the loss of spark.... but they do look awful....

First check the battery (load test not just voltage) and then all battery connections, especially the grounds.

If battery and connections all check good, then make a list of what could cause a temp loss of power, and check out the items on that list.....

Check the plug wires, test your coil, check connections at the ignition switch , other connections, etc, etc, etc....

Electrical diagnostics, especially when intermittent, are a pain in the butt....

Be systematic, be patient, and be persistent.... You'll find it....!

After a quick search on the old internet. I've seen this many years ago, let's say before cat converters were popular. Fuel manufacturers used to add a product Methylcyclopentadienyl Manganese Tricarbonyl (MMT). They soon discovered it was contaminating exhaust emissions and engine components, loss of performance and it was discontinued MMT can be found in some octane boosters. Use a good name brand premium fuel, HD recommended plugs. And check the color in 1000 miles.
