Default PCIII

What map did Jamie load? How can I look at the map? Have USB line and 9 volt battery ready.
It's after hours and I can't wait for tomorrow.
Just received PCIII from Jamie at Fuel Moto. Installing Sunday along with Rinehart Td's and K & N A/C assembly. Anybody know this stuff in layman terms?

When you power up the PC-III and connect your computer to it and fire up the program on your computer, the map already in the PC-III should appear in the program. Just to be safe and sure, you can click on the "Get Map" button. Once you're sure the one from the PC-III is in the display, choose to "Save" the map to your hard drive. Name it something like "Original_Map" so you'll always have a copy if you get to mucking with it and want to revert later.

The only map I've ever gotten from them was woefully inadequate in terms of the Notes. I believe all it said was something like "Custom map by Fuelmoto". Does not describe the map at all in terms of what intake, exhaust, or ECM loads it was designed for.

In case you don't run across the information anywhere else, don't leave the PC-III running on the 9-volt battery any longer than absolutely necessary. I got side-tracked for maybe 20 minutes one time after hooking up a fresh one and it wasn't strong enough to do the job anymore when I returned.

I'll add a bit to Glens' erudite instructions. As for filenaming, I used PCIII-1a (original map), PCIII-1b, ...1c, etc. for later tweaks. When I found a more current map I named it PCIII-2a, then 2b, etc. I'm now on 2d for my main map. When you fire-up the PCIII software, it should load the PCIII's map automatically, but only if configured to do so (It is switchable). So, you may need to click on "Get Map" as Glens suggested.

After installing everything, warm the bike up, connect the computer again with the 9V battery, and turn on the ignition. Don't start the bike. Click on "Power Commander Tools," then "Set Throttle Position." When the small window appears, click on "Reset," then open the throttle completely and hold until the large number on the right of the window settles (should be quickly), and return the throttle to rest. The smaller number on the left should be about 4-5k and the large number around 27-28k, and if not repeat the process. Then when finished click "OK", close everything out, shut down the program, and reassemble.

Glens reports his bike throws a fault code when the above process is used (9V plus ignition on), but mine doesn't, and it is an approved procedure in the PCIII manual.
Not sure if there are others having this problem.

When installing your slip-ons, use some anti-sieze compound (e.g., Permatex) on the muffler-exhaust joint to seal it. This may be good insurance to avoid decel popping. It will also serve to make it easier to remove the muffler later if necessary.

Yours were eruditer than mine

Upon reflection, I may only get that ECM error code when I actually run the engine with the 9v battery connected. In any case, it's a matter of taking a couple of moments to clear it. No big deal in the least.

yes, setting the throttle position is required. some may say that setting 100% throttle is not, but you have to set 0%. otherwise, it will throw your map off. look at it this way-if your map is set to enrichen at 0% or idle, and then lean out at 10%, but your pciii thinks it is at 10% when it is idling, then instead of providing more fuel, it will be providing less...... and it will be that way for the whole map.

the only thing that i noticed in iclicks erudite instructions (wtf does that mean? gonna have to look it up) is that there was no mention of setting the 0% throttle, only 100%. i set the 0% first with the bike running, and then set the 100% using the procedure already mentioned (make sure that you flip your stop/run switch to run or it won't work )

When you hit "Reset" it automatically sets 0%, then waits for you to turn the throttle to 100%. After that, hit "OK" and it's done.

Skratch & iclick,
Thanks for the tip! My stock '07 FLTR ran better after I installed the Power Commander, but I didn't follow through till I read your posts. Just came in from the shop after settin' the throttle position. Sure enough, it thought my idle was 5%. Took all of 10/15 seconds to set both. I'll see if it makes much difference next ride.
