'05 Electraglide Standard
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions... My standard is supposed to arrive on the 5th of March. I'm getting the bike for MSRP which is cool but I'm having a hard time with the wheels. I want a bike with the standard cast wheels but the dealership isn't getting one in in some time. The bike that shows up on the 5th has profile laced wheels. I told the salesman to swap out the wheels with one on the floor and he said cool but I would have to pay labor! Doesn't sound right to me, what do you guys think? Heading down there later today to "discuss" it some more...

The laced wheels are a 450.00 option. I would think that if you are trading straight across for the factory wheels, they could do the labor for free. Especially if they have another bike on the floor with the wheels you want. There would be no tire remounting or anything to do.

I'm with Scout on this one. I have the laced wheels, and I like them. I know that most are worried about the cleaning, but if you get some S100, spray it on, spray it off with hose you never have to touch them and they look great. If your dealer is not taking off the $450 for your wheels, I think you are taking a little bit of a beating. If he is giving you the credit for the wheels, than I think its fair for him to charge you the labor. He is fooling with two bikes, where he wouldn't have had to if you wanted the laced wheels or you were willing to wait for the standard wheels. He's going to charge the dealer prep for the standard prep that every bike goes through...
I'm all about making the best buck, but if he's not charging you for the laced wheels, and he is going to do work that is not normally computed in the prep costs...seems reasonable. Alternative would be to order what you want...that's not fun either.
My $.02
Either way, congrats on your purchase, you're gonna like it no matter what you decide.[sm=smiley20.gif]

I told them I would wait for a bike with stock wheels... They thought that was crazy... We'll just swap out wheels here at the dealer and get you on your bike... Cool, but don't expect me to pay the dealer so I can buy a "stock" bike option...
I have the laced wheels on my heritage. I like the way they look but I'm looking for something different on this bike. I'm planning on the mirrored solid discs... Which if I put them on when I buy the bike they can take the laced, credit me 450, install my discs and charge me for labor and everyone is happy...

I think I'm retarded here...'cause I'm lost.[sm=smiley5.gif]
Did you call them back and tell them you'd wait? And when you did, they thought you were nuts and said, "we'll make the swap to get you on the bike?"
If that's the case, sounds like they are doing you right, and trying to make you happy. If they want the sale, and are willing to do it, I would say go for it. I'm tracking on what you're saying about having the laced wheels on one and wanting a different look on the other.
Tell me if I got this right or not...

your trackin... I told them I would wait for a bike that is exactly what I want... they have about 8 bikes on the floor right now (FLHTI) but they've tricked them out and not one of them is a stock bike. They offered to swap out for the rims I want but want me to pay labor on a bike I theoritically don't own yet... I'm probably just being a tight a** but I've done deals before on autos and bikes when after everything is done and its sitting in the driveway/garage it takes some of the enjoyment out of it when you think in the back of your mind you didn't get the best deal... Plus after a few years overseas, you never pay the sticker price, haggling is part of the deal.

Gotcha...thanks...good luck with it...as I said earlier, I'm sure you'll be happy in the end. And there is nothing wrong with getting the best deal you can.

Jb, if you're going to swap out the rims anyways to polished solids, why don't you take the laced and sell them after the fact. It will be alot easier to sell a set of laced for a few hundred than a cast set. Unless you are getting a credit for the cast and are paying nothing for the labour, I just don't get it.
