My 08 FLHTCU has a rear brake squeak that started at about 400 miles and its still there after 1200 miles...I`m not much for worrying about brake squeaks because its brake dust buildup coupled with harmonic vibrations...Even if you put new pads on, it will return.
The best way to stop it in my opinion is to flush the brake caliper, pads and rotor with water after the brakes are cold....This will wash out all the dust that causes this problem. Give it a try. Rotate the wheel and flush the part that's not exposed also.
My front brake is doing same on my 07 Ultra. I figure I'll just wait until I replace em and get some good aftermarket metal type pads to cure it. It is aggrivating now though.
Someone also said that getting fully floating rotors wisll take care of the problem if I remember corectly. Maybe even they recommended Lyndall z brake pads too...
The rear brakes on my 08 RK (1,100 miles)are so noisy that people on the street stop and stare when I use them, in fact this bike has the noisiest brakes of any bike I have owned in the last Forty years.
I discussed them with a Harley Rep. at the Rapid City Convention Center two weeks ago, he mentioned that one of their deisgn and marketing Strategies for the Brembos was no noise. I have returned the bike to the dealer three times to have them fixed and will know tomorrow if they succeeded. I suggest you call Harley Customer Service and ask them to file a complaint on your brakes, with enough people complaining they just might fix the problem.
ok i tried this and it worked my wifes streetglide front brakes wouldscream at traffic lights so i pulled pads off both sides sanded off theshinny surface & switched pads from right to left basically turned the pads around the noise went away . it does work.
There was a service bulletin on this years ago. The slots in the disc can make them squeak especially at low speed. By flip flopping the discs, right to left and left to right, you reverse the way the cutouts are and the squeaking goes away except when you brake while bacing out of the garage or similar situation.
