I recently bought a custom wheel for my 05 RK custom. I am interested in replacing the rear also but hate spending $1000 plus for a wheel that you really cant see. But a smoooth or slotted wheel sure would be easier to clean on the rear. I can pick up fatboy rims on ebay cheap but the dealer told me I would have to change out the swingarm. Does anyone know if that is correct and if so, is there another wheel that will bolt up. Thanks.
Your rear axle is 1" diameter, the Fatboy wheel is set up for 3/4". Older Baggers used 3/4" axles so maybe that's why the swingarm suggestion. The 1" axle is stiffer. Get a new wheel that fits your 1" axle.
My 99 FLHR has a fat boy wheel on the rear. Of course t has a 3/4 axle. Had to have a shim made for the sprocket side and shimed the rotor to center the wheel. Used the fat boy brake rotor.
So a sportster 1200 rear will bolt right up. What year sporty. I assume 04 up since that is when the 1200 custom came out. Is there anything else that needs to be addressed in the swap. I can find those wheels fairly easy also. Thanks
tna1000... that would a good look with the Fat Boy wheel, but I am not a fan of the FB solid wheel due only to the wind effects while riding on a solid rim.... just a thought.... Good luck... your bike looks great...
