Bored sh*tless today due to the weather, Raining yet again(UK ENGLAND), So took a trip to the local dealer. Never liked baggers buti'm falling in love with them, upgrading from aNitetrain softail, On the shop floor they have the Anniversary Rd King, Bronze and Black, Or the PacificBlue, Sorted the funds out but cant decide on colour. Has anyone made this upgrade how you likeing it?
It is a BIG change to go from a softail to a Roadking. What kind of distances do you primarily ride? I am fortunate to have both a FXSTC and a RKCIbutif I had to choose one bike to do everything it would absolutely be the Roadking.Although mysoftail is a 98 (EVO) and as such more of a "bar hopper," I have riden a friends 07 FXSTC a great deal and still prefer a king.
Bronze & Black love the color on any Harley. I went from a Hertiage to an touring bike too, Ican go anywhere on the Ultra I could go on the Hertiage, just a better ride. Once you get used to the diffference in size and handling you will love it, it's so much smoother of a ride. I negociated the deal with my stealer dependent upon how I liked a test ride, drove it about 2 miles down the road, turned around and signed the papers. He said I came back so fast he thought I was going back on the deal. No way I loved the ride so much after 2 miles I figured I'd better sign the papers before they figured out how good of a deal I was getting. Good luck and be safe out there. [sm=signs003.gif]I was wondering how long it took to train a Harley to ride on the wrong side of the road over there?
Well with the touring chasis you are getting better suspension, a shorter rake and better handling, and more carrying space.
Only thing is that from what I've found from a little time on other peoples' softails is that just like the old metric cruisers I used to ride, on the softail you feel more like you're sitting down in the bike instead of perched up on top of it on the road king, or at least that's my experience being a pretty tall guy.
But the road king has enough advantages that I'm staying with it. And this can be fixed somewhat with reduced height seats, adjusting floorboards, and different handlebars; still haven't decided on which bars to use.
For $30,000 you might want to consider flying to Portland, Maine (PWM) and buying a bike here (Big Moose H-D). Ride it around New England for as long as you can afford and then have it shipped to jolly old England.
Just don't forget to look left when you pull out!
Well before getting my 05 King I had a panhead rigid Bobber....heh heh, what a difference!!!!! Kinda like riding my living room couch LOL.It handles real nice and she gets me home every time in comfort!!
Love my King, right now just can't stand the thought of trading it. Kinda hopeing wife will be ready to ride it next year and will want to keep it as hers.
