I ride a 2021 FLHTKSE and wife has a 2017 Triglide. My CVO came with WHIM and a 30 k headset. We both wear half helmets. I am looking for recommendations on the best rider to rider communication for our application. FYI, we don't need or want music or phone to be played through them. We just want to be able to speak to one another if needed. Thanks!
Subscribed , my wife and I were thinking the same , difference is , she is a passenger 100% of the time . Since doing my stage 2 , the new exhaust prevents me from hearing her ( Lol ) , but on our long trips , it would be nice to be able to communicate .
I honestly don't think being a passenger or separate rider is going to make any difference as to what unit you use . Like you , I don't need music , but most importantly , any phone calls .
Curios to hear what members recommend , good luck !
If you really don’t want to listen to the entertainment via Bluetooth, and really truely just want it for rider to rider communications, then you are 1/2 way there. I’d just get her the HD 30K headset, and you set to go. Two of the reasons I said the 30K is for compatibility and you only have to learn one system. As if your wife is like mine, then you’ll be helping her operate hers frequently.
We bought a pair of HD Boom Audio 10s (Sena brand rebranded) on sale at the dealership 2 years ago. Bottom of the line at the time, however, we only need rider to passenger comms and bluetooth for our Garmin XT GPS No music, no phone.
We wanted to get rid of the cumbersome wired HD comm set that came with our 2014 Ultra. Installation into our full face helmets was straight forward. I will admit it took us awhile to get accustomed to the operation but overall very happy.

Sena 20s EVO is a great unit ….my girlfriend uses mine now that I have the HD 30 that came with the CVO and it’s flawless.
I was ready to purchase another 30s and the manager at Cycle Gear insisted the 20s was better at a lower price.
I bit the bullet on a Sena SRL II Mesh that fits in the Shoei NeoTech II. Since I already had the Sena I got her a Sena 50S for her helmet and the intercom is great. I do not like the phone functions on either but since you’re only concerned about intercom they are top notch at that. They’re expensive but they work well.
Stay with the 30K, it is easy to use the mesh system add other riders if needed and you always have option to use for phone and music if you change your mind.
I had a pair of Sena 30K’s with my last bike, an Ultra Limited. My new RG has the WHIM as well and it came with a Sena 30K. I think they’re great. Bike to bike works very well and they work at a lot longer distance than you’ll need….especially using MESH. Very clear audio.
