I just received the analog dipstick gauge for my iron 1200. Only about $70.00 from HD. Will use it for warming up time in winter, and for summer ride monitoring. I’m in Arizona.

Don't do it. It will drive you insane. Ever since I installed PowerVision and setup their Head Temp gauge, it's been driving me nuts to the point where I got oil cooler fan, DKCustoms crash bars fangs and I keep looking at the temp gauge. Before, I didn't worry about it and just rode my damn bike.

However, I have to say that it did highlight temperatures spikes when I had fork fangs installed, to the point where I decided to remove them because my HT was at 400 degrees sometimes and in 350-360 range when riding on the superslab. I noticed that removing fangs lowered the temperature by about 30-40 degrees.

This app looks interesting, but it doesn't explain how it connects to the ECM or if it requires some kind of dongle to plug into the bike to transmit to your phone. Have you used this?

Edit: Sorry, didn't read far enough before asking the question.

Yes, that is a bit of misleading information in the manual. That is what we believed to be true ... Because it was in the manual.

However, our testing did not show that to be true, and subsequent conversation with HD Service Manager (video linked above) confirmed what we saw in our testing. The EITMS is there to reduce heat radiating from the rear exhaust header.

It may, very slightly, slow down the heating up of the engine while sitting at an idle, but it most certainly does not cool the engine down.

Set your Power Vision to display "ET", that is a true reading of the heat sensor. You will feel better, most of the time it will be lower than the algorithmically derived number (which is not very useful) that you are currently seeing.

Woow 30-40 deg more with fangs. That is concerning (I have fangs as well) but they help so much with buffeting for me I don't thing I will remove mine. I understand you talk about heads not oil temperature correct?
