OK you guys out there that are pulling trailers, I need a little assistance. First off which hitch do you recommend and second what do I need to hook up my lights. I think I have read about some kind of converter for the lights.
I use the chrome hitch from Kuryakyn. The only problem is that it is out there all the time. There are some receiver hitchesbeing sold that everything is hidden from view when not needed. It is all a matter of taste.
I would strongly suggest a trailer wiring isolation kit for wiring it. Basically it will get the power directly from the battery rather than your wiring circuit and simply gets the input from your wiring system for the different functions.
I run a Bushtec hitch (receiver style) w/ their isolator package. Clean install and well-made product. Ah'm also in the process of fabricatin' a flag pole ta run in the receiver, as well.... Ah'll post pics in a coupla weeks when done!
HitchDoc is an outfit that makes a hidden hitch. I have a KromeWerks which I really like, and use it also for a flag mount for PGR events.
I have a HitchDoc on my Street Glide, It is a quality hitch, vertical receiver, well hidden when not in use. Did the install myself with no problems. Wiring isolator is recommended.
Any Hitch made for a HD will do E-Bay has them listed also... You'll need a harness & isolator to tie into your current Brake- Run - Directionals wiring - Start to finish install 2 - 3 hrs
YOU take the truck. I RIDE... trailer or not. Just what kind of "stuff" do you think we're packing anyway?
For the OP, I have a reciever style hitch from MC Hitch. Great item and inexpensive too. It's barely noticable when not in use. As for the wiring, I run a hoppy converter that converts the bike's 5 wire system to the trailer's 4 wire system. It also isolates the trailer wiring from the bike so any problem that might arise with the trailer will not affect the bike.
