I talked to Protac about their backrest and it won't fit Road Kings with the solo seat after 2003. According to them the MOCO made achange to the rear fender. They didsay that they have a model that will work with the one piece seat with the slot. for post 2003 Road Kings. How much are the Protac models ?

I can't imagine why a Protac won't work on a 2003-up bike. The fender has nothing to do with the backrest. The mounts fasten to the fender strut cover bolts.

The last I knew, Protact rests were 129 bucks.

That looks like it would fit my FXR also, I'd give it a whirl.

From Protac:Our backrest for the Road King with the two piece seat now fits the years 1997-2003. This is a bolt on type with two mounting bracekts that bolt to the rear fender strut. Our brackets go under the saddlebag brackets and use the same bolts. The strut makes a downward turn and then goes straight forward again this is the location of the bolt we use. We only make a driver backrest. You would not need a passenger pad for our backrest to work. If you had a one piece seat that had a split in the center we have one that comes up through the seat also. This one fits any year. Price is $120 for the bolt on and $135 for the spit seat. plus $10 for shipping. Studs around our pad are an extra $10 if you want them.

looks good
would have more appeal (to me anyway) if it folded forward like the HD backrest which makes for easier mounting.
Also easy removal is necessary so you can get the seat off.
Pricing is great!

My question is, how strong is that sheet metal going to be. I would need something that would actually hold my fat butt up, without bending back, and becoming deformed.
