Default Need Advice on 07 Ultra Clatter

Ok guys - so here's the scoop... Female looking for GOOD / SIMPLE advice on a couple problems with her2007 Ultra Classic (or should I have said Ultra Clatter?). I've read a lot of postings but would like to get it boiled down into one set of concise responses since I'm not a tech type and hubby not into reading forums, etc. I had an 05, which I loved (no problems) and it was stolen. Replaced with 07 (with problems not being acknowledged by the dealer) - currently 1500 miles... Hubby has same exact scenario on his 07 UC, so not just agoofychick trying to post something and doesn't know what she's talking about...

1) HEAT - darn thing is so hot I can't even keep my right leg down when I hit a lot of stop lights (I've heard some people get the heat on the left side, but I'm getting mine from the right / rear). Have to hikemy footup and put my foot on the right floor board at a stop light just todeal with the heat, and then lean bike to the left to balance. First thing I did was take off the lower fairings (what's wrong with this picture? you buy an UC toUSE the lower fairings and then dealer tells you to take them off to make it run cooler (enough said!)). Second thing I did was switch to synthetic oil.(Dealer would only put in their HD brand (level 3?) and read some other posting about warrantyvoiding for Amsoil (L4), so decided not to go that route, atleast for now). Thought about the oil cooler but svs mgr said would only get 15 degrees cooler out of that (and I need a LOT more than 15 degrees). Thinking about some "mid frame shields" (?) but not sure if that will help or not. Never had this prob at all on the 05, so need to figure out something since not having a lot of fun right now given this heat issue. Any recommendations that will be OEM compliant and not give me grief with warranty or MOCO?

2) Clatter -- yea I have it too, especially in 5th gear. And not my imagination -- complained to the dealer -- live with it was basic response. 05 ran like a charm - sounded great. 07 - bucket of bolts clanging around - half the time when I hit 5th gear, I am afraid the darn thing is going to fall apart. Hubby's 07 bike has totally different sounds (more trany whining, and also clatter), so guess I have one up on him since I don't seem to have the trany noises as much as he does. No advice needed at this point - read the postings on this - guess just wait and see, but wanted to state that there is a HUGE noise problem on the 07 vs the 05 since I have had both, and have riden hubby's bike too and know he has same issues.

3) Pipes - need some new ones!!! But given the 07 engine running hot and all potential warranty issues down the road (in general), want to try and stay OEM compliant if I can but get a little more thunder under me.I"m okay with the performance (more is better), but really just looking for increasesound. Would true duals solve the heat issue too? I'm also okay with slip ons, but just not sure what to do. Any recommendations on what to buy that will keep me looking spotless on the MOCO warranty hit list?

Thanks - appreciate any GOOD/ SIMPLE advice since I'm way under the HD tech IQ on all of this -- I just love to ride....

EFI tuner either sert pc111 or thundermax for heat-there are some others also, this is for heat first, performance second.Cam timing is most liely the culprit but due to epa and your warranty this is the best we have for now.The IDS should get rid of your clatter,it has with alot of owners and mine as well. This is while always usingsyn3 and formuls plus. The 5th gear whine will fade with mileage.Dealers have lied to us and were probably directed to do so-cant believe they all are that stupid.

Oil cooler will help but only while you are moving,Not sure what you both expect from your bikes but slipons are the cheapest way to go using stock header.

Isolated Drive Systems Sprocket Kit

Might give this part a whirl for the clatter. Hear good reports so far

Heat? a good tune helps in conjunction with a fuel managment system (SERT, or PCIII, Thundermax?).

Also rjsoriginals heat shields help tremendously. Highly recommended and they look good to boot.

YMMV

I really like your post. I want to keep my bike stock as well. I don't have the money to just keep trying different options, hoping one will work. I talked to a mechanic friend of mine who also has 07 Ultra. He did air cleaner, pipes and Thundermax. Said it ran great but still had a little pinging. I just have some pinging sometimes and haven't spent any money. This morning at 60 degrees it ran great. The first weekend I had my bike it was 100 degees. I put on 500 miles with no pinging. My 5th gear noise seems to be less after 4000 miles.

'07 UC 12,000 miles

Heat: Synthetic oil, heat shieds and a stage 1. She's still plenty hot but certainly bearable.

5th gear clammer. Mine started to show up around 5-6,000 miles. I swiched out to Amzoil in all three holes at 5,000. I took it in to my HD dealer for the 10,000 service and they swiched everything to Syn 3. I took it back in at 11,000 and complained about the starter and gears not meshing. They replaced the primary chain and sprocket(s).

5th gear still sounded terrible after that. I dumped the syn 3 tranny oil and went back to Amzoil 75-110 severe gear oil and it quieted right down.I am a believer in Amzoil, it certainly made a significant difference. Keep on your dealer, they should take care of you. AND they all seem to inturpret warranty issues differently. Some get excited about oil and stage 1 add-ons and others dont.

What youre asking for is the whole last 11 months of this forums favorite subjects. Search is the best answer I can give.
Add IDS system to both bikes. From those that have clatter and put one on, they say it fixes it.
Add PCIII, fuelpak or tmax to reduce heat and tune for new pipes.
Use the search feature and you can read hundreds of pages on all your questions.

I've asked 2 local dealers about the IDS quieting the '07's down and both said, very quickly, that the IDS won't work for that, that's not what it's meant for, blah blah blah. I tend to believe the folks here who've actually tried it.
