Default Tach/Speedo lens cleaning

Since HD will not warranty fogging/clouding of the glass lenses on the gauges, has anyone disassembled them to clean the glass lenses? I saw one video that stated the newer bikes had a cheaper (insert cheap plastic) gauge body and that made it more difficult to disassemble. Also, this would make the speedo look "tampered with" as there is no way to smoothly re-crimp the trim ring that goes around the glass seal and gauge body. My 21 RGL has a haze on the inside of the tach/speedo when the sun is shining directly in the gauges. I would not replace them as the new ones will do the same thing. I do not see any other way to clean the glass but disassembling each gauge, which is risky.

You can also drill a vent hole in the plastic housing to prevent fogging.

One idea, place the speedo in a sealed container and connect a vacuum pump to it and leave it at 29in HG for about an hour, that should dry it out?

It is not moisture, but rather the residue left behind. It is more of a fine haze, probably dust in the air/moisture that enters and then dries on the glass. I really only see it when the sun is directly shining in the gauges. I am sure it will get worse over time as my bike is 1.5yrs old and already showing up.

It's a "known HD issue".....kinda looks like dried rain streaks. There's no fix and HD will not cover under warranty....and besides, it will just happen again. I've found it easier to never ride in a direction where the sun reflects off the gauges....LOL

I had an lightly used at the time H/D speedo/tach combo that was in place for 18 years. It was clouded over somewhat from the inside. I figured the foam gasket had gotten old with all the heat, wrather, washing, etc.
I roused up a good dose of IDGAF, steadyed my nerves and the adventure begain. Off with the combo. took a small pry tool about the size of a med screwdriver and proceeded to open up the chrome ring from the underside. After a teeth grinding several minutes I got the ring off and glass out.
Tried just alcolol and cotton *****, then acitone and cotton ***** and still had to use more alcohol with a single edge razor blade. Finally got all that residue off rinsed and dried, real well.
I went to my local cell phone company and got 1 pk of the hitec screen saver they wipe on.
I know, phone screens aren't glass but Damn sure slicked up that glass gauge cover toot-sweet.
Then came the reinstallation. Just before that started I slathered the foam gasket with silicon grease. Allowed that to se for a bit then did a good wipe down. Now nice and soft again I placed it all together and hit there nerve medicine 1 more time before clamping the chrome ring back down with out scratching, maring or otherwise boo-boing the topside. All while taking care not to break the glass.
Then, finally at long last, BACK TOGETHER.
It can be done, but at what cost? Let us know how you work it out.
