OK small update. Today is another hot day, bike was covered when I left. It remained comfy the whole time. So I'm leaning in the fact like others are saying, the gel stuff is absorbing a **** load of heat and doesn't reject it well. Then, on top of that, adding additional heat from the engine after it's already hot just compounds the issue. So........I need to figure out some type of lightweight sun blocking cover that I can take on/off quickly and stow with the rest of my gear while it's out in the sun vs lugging my big heavy *** cover around and d*icking with putting it on/off.
How would that attach with my tour pack mounted? 🤔
If your tour pack mounts to the detachable bracket, the same way as is in my picture. I did it, so I'm sure you could too.
But in my case, keeping the sun off it when parked outside did not fix the problem. If you don't ride more than a couple hours this might be the ticked for you, but I take frequent trips and will ride all day and the heat was intolerable. The only cure for me was to get rid of the Saddleman seat and go back to a Corbin.
I use this and love it. It's not waterproof though so I spray it with tent waterproofing spray from Nikwax. It stays in the bike. Great for hot days in the sun or for overnight on trips.
I have a road sofa and I too found it to get hotter in the sun than the factory seat. I got a cycle shade, and use it anytime Im parked in the hot sun. Helps tremendously. No way I would give up my seat after the time and $$ it took to find just the right one even if I didnt have the shade. But it sure helps.
I also keep the shade sprayed with scotch guard and I put the shade on my bike at night on overnight trips so I dont wake up to a wet seat from dew or rain works great.
Me too! Just got mine this week. Slightly used but Im finding it warm but not from the engine. Mine is the perforated leather and since I live in the South, Im now reading stories about it soaking up rain. A seat cover seems ridiculous for rain and for heat etc. I find it almost too firm, maybe I dont weigh enough (175). Im likely going to see if someone wants to trade for an HD touring seat like from a Glide (the hammock) or something similar. I liked the oem but my wife understandably does not like the rear of the oem street glide seat.
