Default Putting tail light kit on classic tourpac

If I get to buy an electraglide, I am looking at the classic as I will save about two thousand over the price of the ultra. The only thing I really want which is not on the classic is the rear lights on the tour pac, but you can buy the kit for about $200. Has anyone gone this route, does it look the same as on the ultra and how hard is it to install? thanks..

donald...a piece of cake. The old adage "measure twice, cut once" applies. Just follow the instructions supplied with the kit, and use the template to mark the cut lines. I think they say to use a hacksaw blade, but I used my sabre saw with a fine-toothed blade. I covered the shoe of the saw with duct tape to prevent scratching the rest of the box, and it did a quick, neat job (drill a 1/2" pilot hole inside a corner to get started. The rest was easy. So glad I added the extra lighting for safety reasons.

BUT...had I known when I bought my Classic what I've been discovering ever since, my advice to you is BUY THE ULTRA!!! Among other things, I've installed Cruise Control, and would not be without it!

As Brian said, many who have bought the Classic have wished they'd have spent the extra $$$ an' gone w/the UC. Saw that time and again with Goldwings, too - folks bought the Interstate or Aspencade, then spent a buncha extry $$$ addin' stuff that came standard on the SE.

Think twice, spend once!

Just did it for the tour-pak on my RG. Not difficult at all. I copied the template since they only give you one & expect you to turn it over for the other side. I made both a right & left template so I could put 'em both on at the same time & verify everything was correct.

I covered the area to be cut with masking tape & traced the template outline on that. To cut I used a "RotoSaw" in a Dremel tool. Makes a good clean cut with minimal vibration. I found that the template gives you holes more than large enough. If I were to do another, I'd stay a little inside the template lines. Start the cut well into the center of the cut-out area to give you a feel for how the RotoSaw will pull.

Installed it looks exactly as it should, & is a great addition to lighting on the rear.

When you buy the TourPak light kit it comes with a new form fitted liner - so it can hide the light assembly inside. Expect a big box - not just a light assembly. I have an '08 classic coming in a few weeks.. be sure to get the cruise control option from the factory,it isonlyabout $200 this year, I got the dealer to throw it in no charge.

I installed one in my king tour pak, took me about 2 hrs start to finish,it wasnt half as tough of a job as i thought it would have been, and im not one to do alot of stuff myself, but the price tag for labor of $245.00 to install the tour pak brake light kit by the dealer ,was motivation to try doing it myself, I used the fine blade hacksaw blade, cut right on the line of the template and block sanded lightly in spots for a real good fit, I'm very pleased with how nice mine went in and I have alot more light on the rear of the bike as well. If i can do this ,anyone can!
