Recently hooked up with an indy that I cannot believe how cheap he works on a Harley and is highly recommended by his customers. You furnish the tire, he'll mount and balance for 50.00.

Just do it yourself! All you need is some good tire levers and rim protectors.

Use this to break the bead:
http://www.racetools.com/popper.html

Use these ceramic beadsto balance the tire when you're done:

http://www.innovativebalancing.com/

I used them on my last tire change and it worked great. Think of all the money you'll save over the life of the bike.

It also helps to get help from another person, but not necessary depending on your mechanical abilities. There's a bunch of sites on the web to show you how to do this easily.

Just put a Metzeler 880 on the rear of my Road king. 129.00 for the tire and 61.00 for balancing and install. HD dealer in Erie PA.

I assume that the dealer is expecting you to buy the tire from him. The price he's getting for the tire is something to consider in this, since you can usually get them a whole lot cheaper on the internet, then either do it yourself or have an indy do it.

Ouch. The $170 I mentioned earlier was for a new Dunlop 402 plus installation and balancing. He wants $150 for the tire and mounting if I were to just bring in the rear wheel. For the extra $20, it's worth it to bring the bike and let them remove it and reinstall it on the bike.

120 bucks is way too much, IMO. The most I would pay would be an hour labor.......But I don't pay....I do it myself by hand.

At any rate, show your dealer this dealer's website and ask if he'll match it. HD of Wytheville will sell any Harley tire for 99 bucks and charge 1 hour of labor for the install.

I remove my own rear wheel and tire, 15-20minand bring it to the dealer and have them dismount and then mount and balance a new Wide White for $140.00. Then I will install the wheel & tire back on myself, 30min. I would never pay any shop to do that unless I was out on the road and had no choice.
