Taking apart friends 02 dresser and found the swingarm pivot shaft broken in half. Felt like he was riding on ice.
We thought just bad rubber mounts until we took it apart.. Anyone else ever see this ? I know i have not and was wondering what could have caused it.
It does have 115,000 miles on it. It did come apart very easy. Don't know if has ever had it apart before or not. I know he has done some engine work to it over the years and has also put a sidecar belt on it.
Just never seen one break before. Got parts ordered.
Right in the middle
I don't know what I was thinking, but I know it has been greased before because he replaced the belt. So the swingarm has been off before
Do you have a picture of the broken ends? Sometimes a lot can be learned from the type of break.
If youve no picture, perhaps youd recall. Was it broken at an angle? If so, thats a twisting break. That could happen upon tightening the bolts if the shaft was defective. It could also happen if one end was binding on the swingarm, twisting the bolt as the bike was being ridden.
