Default Muffler clearance issue

2020 Ultra S&S GNX. Belt tensioner cam plate hitting the muffler. Loosened up the bolts and muffler clamp but seems to be no adjustment to clear it. Left side has about 3/16 of a inch or so clearance. Anybody have this issue with S&S?

In before somebody says, “Why, I didn’t have any trouble with mine at all."

As I recall, when I bought 4.5" slip-ons, I noticed that Rinehart doesn’t recommend theirs for certain baggers. Same issue. So I put Khrome Werks 4.5 cans on mine. Ran into the same issue you have. I loosened up the exhaust system after taking the right slip-on off. I beat a dent in the right can with the round end of a ball peen hammer right where the adjusting cam was hitting it. Put a thick rag, like terry cloth towel overy the muffler so you don’t mark it up. Just a slight dent. Invisible once installed.

One thing you'll notice, if you have the sag adjusted on some aftermarket rear shocks, when you drop the bike down off a jack the sag will help your mufflers clear the adjusting cam. Now unless you get “air” occasionally with your bagger, you won’t have any trouble.

Edit: Another thing I did was put a couple of washers between the right slip-on and the bracket so it drops the muffler down just a smidge. Completely un-noticeable. Don’t use more than one or two washers for each bolt because you’ll run out of threads on those two 1/2" inch bolts and can strip out the brackets that are welded onto the slip-ons. I didn’t do this thankfully, but I noticed I was running out of threads, and fast, if I put too many washers between the muffler and the bracket.

Stocks for now. I was thinking about the dent adjustment and also thought about the washer adjustment. We're on the heavy side 2 up. Do you think a good set of after market shocks properly adjusted would help?

I only ride solo. 220lbs rider, plus I added a tour pak and all kinds of gear I carry around in my bags. But not the same as two riders.

One thing that I discovered on my last two Glides, 2020 FLHX, and current 2022 FLTRXS, before changing out rear shocks, the “Premium” HD hand adjustable OE shocks (adjusted to just 3) had no sag when I sat on the bike. I’ve run a set of Ohlins, and set of Bitubos and when pre-load is properly set up I think I had about an inch if sag.

Take your left bag off, and you and the missus saddle up, and maybe have someone standing by with a tape measure to see how much, if any, sag you get when you sit on your bike with the OE shocks.

I'll have to check the sag. Right now ithe shock is cranked up to 23 on the shock shock. Did that because of the weight of the 2 of us. Maybe too much preload. The mufflers have been on this year with about 3100 miles on them. Just noticed today. I believe the correct sag is 3/4 of a inch. Is that right

Close enough to see if that solves your muffler clearance problem. My OE shocks didn’t budge with just me, set on 3.

Had the same issue with those mufflers. Took a dremel to the bottom of the cam adjuster. I can’t see the belt ever stretching that much to need the last bit of adjustment area.

Good idea. And it’s not like you can’t replace that cam adjuster.

Thanks for the replies. I'll report back on the sag as soon as I can get a extra set of eyes

Thought about that also. Figured just pull the muffler off and cut a little bit off. 3 ideas I'd had and the wealth of knowledge confirmed my thoughts weren't too far off of reasonably
