push button gas door wont open correctly.

I was in Alaska and the harley locking one started screwing up. I was worried it wouldn't open, so I took it odd. I haven't had a button in over a decade. Cover just sits there.

When mine gets where it wants to catch instead of open or won't release, I take a little dab of lithium grease and smear a thin coat on the plastic piece that slide inside the other (#2 in the diagram above), including the catch notch. Cured it every time.

The problem with the one I have is that the sliding piece is metal and I just ground off the nose

You can also rotate #2 (after loosening the nut a little) slightly, trying to center it and lithium grease above helps also...

There is adjustment in the hindge/spring screw holes too. Just loosen and slide lid away from latch. Less destructive...
