2007 RK- 103 BB, woods cam tw6-6, big sucker2, Rinehart TD exhuast, jagg 10 row oil cooler, amsoil, Tmax w/AT. my basic map selection was done by bore, exhaust, intake size. I've tried setting from 12.5 to 13.5 AFR.
problem- when crusing at 50mph or less engine temp increase to 300'c before I shut bike off( usually in about 10-15 minutes).
traffic just makes it worst, if that possible.
at speeds 60-85mph engine seems to hold around 270'C.
i included some plug photos, about 4k miles on them, 1k after the cam change.
could this a timing problem, since engine ran cooler with original 255se cams(no where near as strong)?
OK, that runs MUCH HOTTER than the oil temp measured in the pan or return line. Not sure but 300 is probably pretty normal at that point. You need to measure OIL TEMP where it is measured conventionally to compare how hot your motor is running. 230 is considered normal for a twinkie and higher probably "normal" for a "built" motor.
Good synthetics can withstand higher temps without too much breakdown.

EZ, Sheldog, make sure you guys are talking the same unit of measure. Sheldog 300 c is pretty hot on the head mesurement, checked my rear cylinder after a ride into work, ambient tem was 95 is, rear head temp was 257 F ( dont know what this is in celcius but its much cooler than 300c), measured with a thermal IR gun. I run Mobil 1 V, good oil as are some other synthetics, stage one 07 96" TC,putting a Tmax on this week. Suggest you check tour oil temp before you melt the internal components.
so far suggestions, seem to be find a different way to measure engine temp, i guess oil temp in pan is a good idea, i'm just surprised that engine temp isn't given more credence.
Well, since the oil is used to cool the top end, the most standard way to compare yours to others is to measure the oil temp where most folks measure it.
The harley oil temp gauge for the fairing measures behind the engine in the return line. The "Wally" version uses a step down bushing and places the sensor in the casting plug hole at the front of the oil pan. The dipstick version uses the dipstick hole. Given 230 as the "norm" per HD (at least on 06 and back bikes) you can at least judge from there.
IF your head temps are way high, it WILL show up in your oil temps., IMO. Also you will experience some preignition from running too hot, no?
My '07 RG (Stage 1 - Amsoil - slip-ons & NO OIL COOLER) and a 115+ degree day - Taking temp from the oil dip stick gauage has got as high as 272 degrees..
This was an avg of 5 - 10 degrees higher the my sons '05 RKS and friends '01 RKC both with stage 1 0 Syn oil - oil cooler & ture duals...
