So I've put a few miles on my new to me 12 Ultra and have noticed there seems to be a lot more airflow between the upper and lower fairings than the 01 Classic.I got looking at them both in the garage and the space between on the 01 is maybe 2 inches and the space on the 12 is big enough to slide your fist through. The issue is that it seems to be directed right up into my face buffeting my helmet and glasses. It's hard on my old watery eyes.None of this on the 01.Both sets of lowers look to be mostly the same shape but the 12's are definitely shorter.I guess I'm asking is there a filler or deflector to stop this. Both batwings have the adjustable deflectors on them now.Thinking maybe I should swap out the lowers before I sell the 01 but that would entail painting both sets.
Part of the issue might also be that I sit closer and a little higher up on the 12.I thought these 2 bikes would be nearly identical .
I had a problem with buffeting on my bike (2012 Ultra classic). I installed deflectors (AKA Fangs) and cured it. In trying to order through the Harley site it said they would not fit the Ultra. In fact they do fit and do not bump up against the lowers but it's close. To order I simply selected the deflectors for a 2012 Road King.

Look under the ignition switch part of the dash and make sure it's got the inverted dog dish deflector down there between the forks. I forget what year they stopped adding those but I had to get one for the '14. Huuuuuuge difference.

Agreed. I had both the HD Fork Mounted Deflectors as well as the "dog dish" (Kuryakyn I believe) on my 2012 UC. With the 10" HD Wind Splitter Windshield, I had no buffeting at all.
Note...HD says the Fork Mounted Deflectors will not work if you have lowers. They do work. I took the chance and purchased them. I was able to install them and at full lock, had about 1/2" clearance with the lower fairing.
DK Custom cooling wings. They deflect all that air to the engine where it is needed. I installed them on my Electraglide Classic and they made a huge difference with the air buffeting. I also installed them on my Road Glide.

I've been eyeing those. They seem to make more sense than the fork fangs as far as getting air to the engine, and they look better in my opinion. Thanks for the post.
