Default Riding style affects gas milage

I rode out to Kingman from Vegas Friday night. On the way out there I rode it like I rented it and got the insurance. Really twisting the throttle every take off. Did 80 most of the way hit a hunard couple times. I filled up in Kingman and calculated mileage 30 MPG I thought wow after the mods it really killed the mileage. On the way back 70 or under not even hitting full throttle. I gotta admit it was enjoyable ride to not so much noise very relaxing. When I got into Vegas filled up 39 MPG. Pretty much what I was gettin when I first got the bike. It was stock and I was a new rider so didn't push it hard.

I hear ya... If I ride easy at 70mph I can get 41mpg out of her but add some fast starts and mix in a little 90mph and the mileage goes south to the 35mpg range..[:@]

It really was just an observation I didn't buy the bike for the mileage. That was not even a concern. The dealer did have a big display of 55 gallon drums showing this much vs. this much. I love to hear it bark though.

Of course you know you'll have to repeat the experiment on a day(s) with the same weather/temperature and do the reverse riding styles if you want to be able to come to a proper conclusion. Right?

When I was riding BMWs, I became friends with an incredibly interesting man who worked as a salesman for Bob's BMW in Jessup, MD. Among other things, he completed the Iron Butt Association Bun Burner 1500 when he was in his mid 70s, and probably forgot more about motorcycles....BMWs in particular....than most people ever knew. He could document over 1 million miles ridden. Paul had a favorite saying: "You control gas mileage with your right hand." He also had some other interesting theories....including his belief that you got better rear tire mileage if you did a lot of two-up riding, because the added weight induced less "tread squirm."
