In my 07 ultra I just replaced the main drive gear bearing and main drive gear.
I also had an Indy shop do the trap door bearings.
when installing the gearset the shaft is really hard to turn over by hand. When its not torqued down its fine but when I torque it down then it feels like its binding.
I pressed in the main drive gear twice now just to make its straight, the main drive gear bearing is flush to the inside of the case and the snap ring fits great.
There are clips or locks that hold the gear that the 5th gear dog slides on...on the main shaft. They are half rings and what happens when you're installing the gearset if you let that dog slide and one of those half rings happens to be on the bottom side of the shaft it'll fall out of its little shitty groove and get jammed in that gear when you pull the gearset into place. Once you tighten it , it will become near impossible to spin the trans over. Loosen and it spins...I almost lost what's left of my mind trying to figure this out one time. I had done several transmissions at that point too and had never had an issue until this time. A little 1.99 ring drove me nuts lol.

Than it is. While it will be tighter, it shouldn't feel like it's binding.
I'd suggest taking it out yet again, and inspecting closely, slowly, and thoroughly every part. Somewhere, you've got something in there, or something isn't seating as it should. Be it a burr, a speck of grit or metal splinter, etc. Because it's showing up when being torqued down, the problem is likely very minute and difficult to discern. As well a missing spacer, or an extra one, misplaced spacers or wrongly machined one too.
How often is there a front wheel installation problem thread because someone didn't realize those front axle spacers are side specific and put it together wrongly and now has a scraping problem with their rotor. Being flawless with a wrench I of course have never made such mistakes! 😆
That one I had this problem on did the same exact thing...couldn't hardly spin the back wheel when everything was tightened up. I'll bet a baloney sandwich you're going to find something like I described in there. Good part is your dealer should have all those little clips and locks in stock. I got real good at putting the gearset in and out during that fiasco. Happy hunting lol
