My first problem with the Hogworkz TP was docking related where their QD TP mounting bracket didnt fit the front spools of HD docking hardware but thanks to me being a still working machinist I resolved that issue by turning some stainless spools to fit the Hogworkz mounting bracket and that thread is located here
In all fairness the vivid black paint quality is awesome with zero issues and the overall structural integrity of the box itself is sound and it all sees a lot of action as I ride almost every day and the TP is my primary storage as both a lunchbox and lockbox but last week the barrel lock on the TP seems to have spit a tumbler rendering the lock useless but thank God it wound up stuck in the open position as both my EDC and wallet were in it.
Now I couldve called Hogworkz and while they may (or may not) have offered a free replacement? I thought how lucky I was that this didnt happen 800 miles from home (like when I rode up to TN last Nov) where it couldve wound up stuck in the Locked position so? I slid the cover off my HD key to get the key code but had to ride to the dealership to show proof of ownership to order a genuine HD TP barrel lock keyed to my saddlebag locks which I did.
Just keeping yall updated on this HW TP at all of 3 months in.
They did not ask me for proof of ownership. Just gave them the key to order.
I've a great relationship with my dealer. I recently upgraded to the new style H-D saddlebags for my '13 King and all I did was ordered the keyed locks over the phone. They keep all of that info there.
I had the key on me so I just handed it to the parts guy. He slid off the plastic to see the number I'm assuming.
So yes. The fact that you were actually there handing them your key IS "proof of ownership"
Point being they can't just take someone's word for it and order them a lock because (2) keys come with every lock and although a reach? A dealer doing such could contribute to theft.

I wouldn't consider handing them "A" key proof of ownership, but ok.
