Default Engine Management Systems

I'm looking into getting an engine management system put on my 2005 Ulta but am confused on what type to get.....Thundermax, Screamin Eagle Race Tuner, Power Commander, etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Fule management can be accomplished with a TFI (aka: DFO), V&H Fuelpak, Terry Terminal Velocity, Power Commander, etc... The DTT and Thundermax are actual replacement ECM's that cost a little more but give you added flexibility. Just depends what you want to do. If you're just looking to add a little fuel you can save some money with a TFI.

That depends on your plans for your scoot. If you are planning on doing some up-grades, then get the thundermaxx, if not, then pcIII, fuelpack.

Simple anwers to a complex question.

Fuel Management has been discussed/cussed/reviewed for a long long time.

You might be better off if you were to search this forum and then develop a plan based on what your needs are now, and in the future.

Good Luck

I would recommend the ThunderMax or DTT even if you don't plan on future modifications.....the difference in how the motor runs is worth it

I agree...unless you're on a tight budget.

I've not read anything bad about the Thundermax. My wife and I tour at higher altitudes (anyplace is higher then Dallas) and the thought of having the system adjust automatically is appealing. In speaking with some tech folks at Zipper, he said I need exhaust header pipes that accomodate O2 sensors. The V&H pipes I just bought for my 2005 Ultra (with a 103 motor), application does not have the bungs for the sensors. He indicated I could drill and weld some in place. I don't like the idea of doing this. Do you know of any application (that will fit on my bike) that has the sensors already in place? Harley will take my pipes back since they are only a few days old and still in the box.

Thanks All
Scott

Any pipes that you buy now, as long as they are for an '07 or '08, will have the bungs. I don't think anything else drastic has changed on the Ultra. The different primary may effect fitment on some pipes. You'll probably need to call the manufacturer for whatever pipes you choose. BUT, it really isn't a big deal to get those bungs welded in, any muffler shop could do it, probably cost you $30-$50 bucks.

The '07 pipes with bungs won't fit older models, according to SuperTrapp. Adding 45-degree bungs with polished nickel welds won't look as bad as you think, and you'll laugh when you add up the dyno costs you'll save later as you add modifications to your bike. If I didn't ride a MM-equipped EFI bike, you can be certain I'd be running a ThunderMax or closed-loop-type tuning device in a New York Minute!
