My 23 CVO has it pre installed, never used it until the Skyline head unit was introduced, In touring mode it fills the screen and looks amazing, I run Waze in the background for the usual alerts and warnings.
You can cache multple state navigation data locally on your phone with Google Maps. Not an issue. Next incorrect assumption?
Sure, that's great if you just want to go A to B like Google Maps wants to take you.
How do you plan custom routes though with multiple waypoints, save it, and use when touring?

It all depends on your methods. I save locations in Google Maps under "hotels" "sights to see" and "Food" and at a fuel stop or planned stop I just call up the next stop. You can also put in intersections if you want. The point is you can save maps for out-of-service areas, and not pay for an outdated map on your bike.
It's not as fluid as a planned route, but it is flexible and you already paid for it in your phone, and it is more current.
And with Android Auto, it displays on my head unit.

You can add as many stops along a route as you want. You can choose no highways, no tolls, or no ferries. You can preview the entire route. I just made a generic trip in my Google maps on my phone. I don't know if the desktop version allows more tweaking to customize the actual streets and roads you want to take. It's all I have used for years. Click download to save it.

Thanks for this Buell. I'll have to try it again. I prefer to use my desktop (66 year old eyes don't like little screens) to plan my routes. The last time I tried...planned & saved a route on my desktop, it was nowhere to be found on my iPhone?
The HD Ride Planner (for GTS/GT head units) is a bit cumbersome to learn but I like it. I plan my trips/routes on my desktop and it's automatically saved on the phone app. Then the next time I start up the bike, it asks if I want to save/download the route...a couple of prompts and done. Pretty simple.
