Default RK question... Please new to me.

I'm looking to pick up a new to me used bike, what I'm looking at are two RK's.

The first is an 08 police bike with the 103 an under 20 thousand miles, it has the oil cooler and what ever they put on those? Not sure about the compensator? Not sure it will have a better suspension?
The other is a 2011 RK with milage around 50 thousand, it has had the compensator replaced...
Now there is a 5 hundred dollar difference between the two with the 08 being a tad bit higher... I will have to change seats and bars as I'm a tad bit vertically challenged..

I want to thank whoever gives me input...

Thank you

Bikes with 50k start to get hard to sell. It will be there awhile unless the guy priced it right, Normally I would say got with lower miles since so many low mile bikes out there.

also we kinda need to know the price.

Usually on a bike purchase $500 is small portion. 2008 old frame, which I tend prefer, first year brembo brakes and 6 gallon tank. It might have the same style compensator as 2007, which are a problem, but also I got 70k on mne. I have wondered if 2008 is odd year with old frame and big tank. I would google to make sure it doesn't effect seat choices

Unless it was all I could afford I would no t buy bike with 50k, unless just getting it cheap. I have two bikes over that, and I ride them. But you do start to see issues. Plus so many low mileage bikes.

Also these are the only two bikes out there

As much as I like the older frame… I would go with the newer bike.
08 is kind of a bastard year, older frame newer tank. Some seats may not fit.
Actual ex cop bike is not a desirable thing. I was told by a RCMP motorcycle cop the first day of training is to stand by the bike and let it drop. They probably don’t treat them any better on the 2nd day either.

So not going into the m8 bikes, unless I pick up a Heritage since I wouldn't have to change anything but bars on it...

What are the better years to look into? Found an 01 that is built to the hilt, gears, cams and bored... But can't find a seat that'll give me a tad more leg room.

Truth be told it'll match the Dyna

I got 90 and 70, Its is not about maintenace it is about things fail based on miles and time. The reasons high mileage bikes sit forever in the classifieds is because people think with thei
emotions and how much they love their bike.

Maintenance does not prolong life of electronics, belts, stators, seals, ect I have replaced a few things to get to those miles. They need to be priced accordingly. It always amuses me when people talk about maintenace records when selling a vehicle. As if changing the oil makes a difference in they failed items or life. Look at autos, how many vehicles these days are junked because of engine? You got vehicle with 300k on the engine, and everything else. Engines last a long time.

I got a detailed spreadsheet of when everycode came up, and when I changed everything. It didn't make the volt reg last longer.

If it is all you can afford or feel like spending it buy it. It may be great or may teach you how to wrench on harleys. Could be one part every couple years, or two this year. You just never know. But time and miles catch everything,

Ta
You best sit on the bikes. IMO the old touring frame has more leg room. The boards could be adjusted, I wouldn't buy a bike built to the hilt, the buy bought it run, and you don't really know who or what was done to it.

You need to throw some prices into this discussion too. I might buy an 01, because it was cheap. Bore it to 88 inch, in fact that is what I did.
