My 2007 Ultra has been developing a rear noise, which has been getting progressively worse. It's sounds something like a warped rotor, but louder. it has gotten so loud you can hear it over the stock pipes. It's doesn't matter which gear I'm in, if the clutch is in or out.Applying brake pressure doesn't matter. The speed of the noise is related to wheel speed, not motor speed and the noise stops below 10mph. I dropped it off to the dealer for the second time last night. The first time, they thought they may have tightened the drive belt too tight, so they loosened it, but the noise is still there. It is worse after the bike warms up and and if it's a hot day. Any Ideas?
I don't think it's related to the 5th gear whine or chatter that everyone talks about. I've got that one, and consider it normal for the new 6 speed.
This sound is a cross between a warped rotor and a 4x4 truck with agressive mud tires.
Please let us know what the final verdict is and how to fix it. My 2007 Street Glide is starting to make the same sound and although it is much less than what you describe it is a lesser version of the same. It is most noticeable when going slowly with the clutch pulled and the bike in 1st or 2nd. It is not affected by engaging the clutch or applying brakes but does vary in speed and intensity with the speed of the bike. In my case, once above say 30 mph, I can't hear it anymore.
hitone, you've got the it. It gets worse as time goes on. It got to the point of where I could lean my head over to the left side and here it at about any time above 10mph. FYI, I've have stock exhaust. This all developed shortly after the 1000 mile service appointment and got progressively louder. I dropped the bike off last week for the second time, as soon as I get the bike back and the noise is gone, I'll post what the dealer did. Right now he thinks it's the rear wheel bearings.
