So I finally just ordered a Road Sofa CF with back rest for my Ultra Limited…dumb question. Do I have to take off the Harley driver backrest hardware under the factory seat, or will it fit over it?
2 reasons I ask…1, it’s not here yet and I’m getting the bike ready for it, so no - i can’t just look and see yet. And 2, I’d like to be able to switch out seats (to a factory street glide seat when I take off the tour pack and ride solo - literally just for looks) when I want, but still have a backrest.
I had to remove my backrest hardware off of my '21 UL to put the new La Pera seat on, it's not a big deal, three nuts and it's off. The bolts coming up through the fender don't impact the new seat so I left them in place.

Thanks!
Yes, you must remove it, no it won't fit over it.
From Saddleman's installation instructions.
Got the seat and yes - you do have to remove it, but ONLY the brass part that actually holds the Harley backrest. 3 bolts. I left the lower part in (the black part you have to remove the ECU and battery cover to install) and it fits perfectly.
So if I ever want to switch seats, it’ll only take 2 min to put the brass part back on…
Thanks for the advice!

I'm also interested in what you think about the seat. I'm considering extended reach with a backrest. $850 is a lot of cash for a seat. Let us know! Thanks
I can tell you that I IMMEDIATELY notice a support difference the second I sat on it.(I have a bad back). It’s also strange that even though I feel like I’m sitting maybe 1/2” higher on the bike, I can now flat foot instead of toes only. So somehow it raised me AND lowered me LOL (just kidding - it’s cause it’s slimmer and my legs aren’t out as wide.
I’ll let you know how it feels riding after I put more than the 5 miles I did yesterday LOL.
