Default Another fairing thread

Hi Guys,

So I want to put a detatchable batwing on my '06 RK, but when all is said and done, I don't want to drop ~2 grand on any of the aftermarket ones. My idea is this; retrofit a stock batwing with detatchable brackets, if I had to fabricate something I could. I don't care about gauges, but I would wire it for stereo. I've been seeing stock inner and outer fairings on Ebay for around $100 bucks a piece. If so, I think I could pull this off fairly cheap.

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this or can point me to a thread? Does this make sense, or do I need to stop smoking the pipe? After searching, all I've been able to find are threads on EG -> RG conversions.

Thanks,
-Joe

Seen it done in the past... Haven't seen one that looked anywhere as nice as the aftermarket ones...
Buy the time you buy the Outer & Inner Fairing (used) you more then likely have to do some glass repairs - Then fill\glass all the gauage holes... Good Speakers $100.00 - Good Radio - $250.00 - $450.00 - Windshiled $60 - $100.00 - And color match paint ($80.00 - $186.00) depending on color (and painting it yourself...) Additional hardware for mounting and support..... (this is a short list)
?????? Don't know... Lots of work... Time, Money and a Pro look $2000.00 may not be as bad as you think???

I agree --- exact same process with a king tour pak from ebay---by the time I finished I could have got a new one without the headaches

Yeah, you guys are right.
I was just at the dealership picking up some parts. Took a look at some glides. Looked like both the inner and outer would need to be cut up to clear the RK's nacelle. didn't realise that the outer wrapped around the headlight.

I need to get me a parts book...

Thanks fo rthe replies.

You would be in business if you could find a rear ended wrecked bike which had a fairing. And you would still have to contend with factory brackets that need welding modification to keep them from cracking all the time.

Go with a Dead Center Cycles you can finda link to them on the right hand side bar.

I did, and strongly recommend getting it completly optioned out, painted your colors, radio/wiring/harness/with speakers and a cig lighter for heated riding gear!

And take my word on it you will end up riding sooner and have spent less in the long run. If you don't beleive me do a search on some of my threads on the front fairing, its all here. Along with many others issues (what they could have done)and good deals too.

Have fun.
