TSM versus TSSM
I have an '06 Road King Custom (FLHRSI) and my turn signal module went bad. No dealership has them any longer. I found Tedd Cycle but they do not have them any longer either and it looks like they won't ever be making any in the future.
I went to ebay to try my luck and I see quite a few of the modules but they also have security. So a TSSM versus the TSM that's currently on mine.
My question is, if I buy a TSSM and it's sent to me without a fob will I be able to use it? Should I assume that security has been disarmed and it'll be okay to install or will I possibly get one that I cannot use because I don't have fob?

So the short answers are:
"No" you can't use the TSSM, if you have an EFI bike, unless you go through the "password learn" procedure. That is a very long, detailed, and complicated procedure. Many have done it, but also many have had to make two or three attempts before they get it right. It is a total pain in the butt.
"Yes" you can use the TSSM, if you have a carbed bike, without the need to go through the complicated "password learn" procedure.
Once the TSSM is swapped to a carb bike, it should not activate the security without a FOB.
They say to perform the "key FOB assignment and personal code entry" procedures after doing the "password learn" procedure, so I don't think even on the EFI bikes, the TSSM will activate security by itself after install.
If going to a TSSM (security), I would however get a button FOB and perform the "key FOB assignment and personal code entry"procedures just to be safe...
FWIW... I haven't used the FOBs to activate the security on my 2001 (carb) or 2003 (EFI) bikes with a TSSM in years... I've never had the security arm itself. Not sure I'd bet that means it can't happen...
Since you have a TSM, if you replace it with another TSM, whether a carb or EFI, you will not need to go through the complicated "password learn" procedure.
This chart is from my 2003 Electrical Diagnostic Manual, or maybe it was from the 2003 factory service manual... I forget.

I hope this info helps.....
Good luck with the TSM replacement....

Thanks for the reply.
Mine is EFI. I got lucky. A day after posting this I got a call from a friend. He had a buddy that was chopping a bike that had the same TSM as mine and he was willing to sell it. Everything worked out fine.
