We need to know what the codes are...???

Are they always the same codes, or do the codes always vary..?

I am unaware if things changed with the M8 engines.... but....

On the Twin Cams, the check engine light only stays on with a current code. It comes on, then goes off, if there is a historic code. If you don't manually clear a historic code, it will clear itself after 40 (I believe that is the magic number) drive cycles without the code becoming active again.

If you have to clear codes after every ride, then you either have active codes, or a seriously intermittent code that could be a warning that an issue is brewing...

The codes that you are clear and then they return, are an important piece of information...

Not all codes are necessarily bad...

For example, when I remove my Tour Pack, until I hook it up again, there will always be a couple active codes... They have to do with the rear speakers and passenger stereo controls. Obviously, I don't care about those codes, because I know they are active due to removal of the tour pack.

If you want educated opinions, you need to give us more info....

The codes in question and any recent work done to the bike would be a good start....

if you are clearing the codes before every ride, and then you are getting codes, how can they be historical?

Because the code is intermittent? There long enough to set but clears after time..
