Default Group Comm systems, how they work

I have a Gearlec Gmax unit that for two riders works VERY well, here is the question, insert a third unit and the group function, although it works, is extremely non user friendly. 2 riders and you can listen to music, single push and your chatting, single push and your back to music, either rider. Group mode you pretty much need to stay all connected all the time as the comms are sorta daisy chained together and whoever ends up with comm 2 is the kingpin that floats the other comms. you can not just pop in and out like in 2 rider mode.. My question is this normal for the non mesh units? even the cardo or Sena units? These little units for two riders is about the best bang for your buck out there. But for 3 or more you better like everyone as you don't dare leave as you may not get back in depending on which unit number your assigned.

I have Cardo NEO. My riding buddy's have Cardo PackTalk Bold. We all mesh together, can talk back and forth, and we can each listen to our own music. I can't hear what the others are listening to, they can't hear me, but we can all talk back and forth. As far as I'm concerned, the Cardo units will mesh with each other, provide decent range between front rider and rear rider, can play our own music, and can (if you really want to ) accept and make phone calls. These units are bluetoothed to our phones for the music portion. You tube has some good videos of all the Cardo units and their features. Downside is they are more expensive.

yea ours do all you listed until you add a third unit. Then your locked in intercom if you want it to work with 3 or more. Bummer since it works/sounds great. We are usually two but for the price I guess I cant complain. 79.00 compared to 500.00

We use the Cardo Freecom 4x, and I didn't realize this when I purchased a set of them for my wife and I, but like you said, if I have three riders connected (myself and two others) I can no longer listen to music, in fact, it completely disconnects from my phone all together so no GPS instructions or anything. After a little research (which I wish I would have done prior to the purchase last year) I have found that because they are bluetooth connected once you add a third rider that takes all the bluetooth channels. It's a bummer. Had I done my due diligence I would have went with the mesh Packtalk systems.
