Default Cruise control problem electra street glide 2012

Hello all, i am from The Netherlands so excuse me for my English.

I own a Electra glide from 2012. Problem is my cruise control will not always engage. I push the cruise control button “on” and i get the orange light in the display. When i want to set the speed on lets say 60mph, sometimes i need to hit the “set” button 1 time and sometimes 15 times, and the light will turn to green and its works. But when i disengage the cruise control its hard to engage it again. I don’t have brake lights that stays on or what so ever.

Couple days ago i drove at the highway and want to use my cruise control, i was lucky and it worked after 1 time use the “set” button. I want to know where the engagement problem was, so i have set my cruise control and use my front brake to disengage it, after that i hit the resume and it directly engaged the cruise control again. I did this with the front brake 5/6 times to test, no problem. I also did the same test with the rear brake and throttle roll off, also 5/6 times and no problem. After disengage the cruise control picked right up when i hit the resume or set button. So after tested the front, rear brake and throttle roll off i also want to test the clutch switch.
So i set the cruise control and disengage it with the clutch lever, after disengage i hit the set/resume button and nothing happened.. cruise control not engage.

So i drove further for 15minutes and give it another try, after some attempts i got the cruise control set. I did the same test, disengage/engage it with front and rear brake and throttle roll off for couple times, no problem. After every disengagement the cruise directly worked again when i set/resume it. So i also want to test te clutch switch again, and same as before, when i disengage the cruise control with my clutch i cannot engage it again.
So i tought to be sure it must be the clutch switch. I decide to open the control switches on the left side, cut the wires from the clutch switch and take it out.

After a test there was no result, still the cruise control not engaging every time i want it to do.

So now i disconnected also the front and the rear brake switch and test is again.. same result still a intermittently working cruise control.. it drives me crazy. I decide the check for some problems with the wiring, i removed batwing and tank, take the tape off the wiring but no problems there. I also removed my handlebar and check the wires inside, and the twist grip sensor, nothing wrong.
I measured the switches with a multi meter, and working perfectly. In diagnostic mode for the cruise control it goes from orange to green at every disengaging point.
it drives me crazy guys and i don’t know where i need to search further.. maybe the speed sensor?

1) As you may or may not know, the cruise will not engage under 30 MPH so be sure when you are testing it you are above 30.

2) I have had intermitant issues in the past and have found that the Mini Fuses in the fuse block will look good, but actually seperate for no good reason, I always replace all my mini fuses every 3 - 5 years just for piece of mind ( my bike sits outside in the summer months and gets wet ) maybe change out the fuse for the CC just to rule it out.

3) If your speed sensor is having issues it could cause this, but I would think it would also give you inconstiant readings on the speed-o

4 ) sometimes on my 2011 the "resume" function ( pushing forward ) does not work, but it will always "set" by pulling back . I do not know why.

Thanks for the reply.

I know about the cruise that it not works under 30MPH. Checked the fuses and cleaned the fusebox with contact cleaner.

Does the bike have any other issues? Like the gear indicator not working.

My bike has this problem every now and again where the cruise and gear indicator don't work and it is caused by the clutch cut out switch sticking. I lube it with white lithium grease and it's normally good for another 6 months before needing to be lubed again.

Its not the clutch switch, as i say before I disconnected the switch (cut the wires and take it out) and problem is still there

As the above post says, no cruise under 30 mph. Also, if you can get consistent results using one method, for instance, I turn my throttle forward to turn off my cruise if I need to pass someone or whatever, I then tap up on the cruise to resume when I'm ready. I try to do this the same way every time so I'm not messing around with different settings while I'm riding and I can pay attention to what I'm doing, which is operating the bike.

Laugh if you want but a good spray of WD40 in and around your switch pack can’t hurt. Dust and moisture gets in there. Also spray the clutch handle switch that disengages cruise as well as allows you to start your bike in gear.

Back when I had my 2010 Street Glide, cruise on that bike was acting the same way.

Since it was still under warranty at that time, I took it to the dealer.
They said the actual switch was bad and replaced it. No problems after that.

It does sound like apossible switch faiulre. The tiny piece of brass contact could be moving around due to the tiny piece of plastic that holdit still are broken and the brass is able to move around a bit causing intermittant functionality. - Google Vertalen

Thanks for the reply’s.
even when I disconnected the clutch switch I still have the same problem. I removed the clutch switch and disconnected the connector for the left side control switch housing, still the same problem
