Decat head pipe question

What drill bits have you guys used to decay head pipe?

I used a 1” spade bit to drill out mine for the most part. It still needed a little clean up though, Mine had 3 cats.

I have seen people use a paddle bit with a long shank in a drill

I'm a fan of cutting them open and welding but the '14 and later ones ar a little easier to get to from the back. This is a 2012.

The only problem doing it with a core bit like I posted is that it won't get all of it. The header where the cat sits isn't round on bikes like my 16 Ultra. Not bad to scrape out the rest, but your way is probably the best in reality. I have a mig so welding isn t a big deal.

1 inch by 16 long paddle bit. Done a couple of them this way. Take header off and place in a vice, hook shop vac. up to the left side port. You don't want to breath all that heavy metal the comes out.
It's a fairly brutal job, but works well. Gotta have a good drill.

Like others with 13 and older bike, I just cut it open and welded it back up.

Whatever works, heat is down and the sound is a little more throaty (is that a word?)...
