Default Power Source for LED's

I just got some nice under tank LED's and a switch to install on my '03 Electra Glide. Could anyone direct me to an easily accessible wire for a power source? I have the service manual, but I'm terrible at reading wiring diagrams.
Thanks.

No need to cut wire. I wouldn't. Go to auto parts store and get a fuse piggy tap for your fuse size. Lights will have their own fuse system.

Thanks; that was my first step. It worked great, but the ones I got were a bit of clunks. The fuse block cover would no longer fit over the block, so the block itself would've been unanchored. I could probably have modified a few things to make it work, but it quickly went into the "more trouble than it's worth" departement.
So I'm just looking for a wire with easy enough access to be able to use vampire clamps or the like.

Do you have an AUX or ACC switch on the inner console by the ignition switch?

If so, that switch controls a pin on a 4-pin connector located under the seat in that cavity in front of the battery.

That plug has the following outputs:

Although this image lists a 2002 model, this is a standard feature if your bike came with the switch.

Just get yourself a pigtail adapter like this:

and wire your new lights to the orange wire of the bike harness and ground.
You won't even need to find a place to mount a switch now.

This is what I did on my '13 King. I used the splitter above to connect a USB power port that runs under the tank to the bars. The other Y is used to provide power to my detachable batwing.

A buddy uses the ACC plug to also power some lights like what you're doing and uses the ACC switch to turn it on/off, even when riding at night to be seen more.

This seemed like a great idea. Easy, and cheap. My bike does have an accessory switch, and the connector was where you described it; but the wire colors on the pigtail are different, and the HD parts site says it won't fit. Tough to figure out why as it looks like it ought to.

The H-D parts catalog is a very helpful, albeit somewhat limited accuracy.
This is probably due to things like dates of production, etc. It could be that the splitter wasn't released until 2005 (or whatever), so the system thinks it is not compatible with a 2002 bike.

The actual wire color may have changed between years and models as well, but the control from the switch to the wire is still the same.
You can buy one of the aftermarket Y-connectors pretty cheaply on ebay or amazon.
Just use a test light or meter to confirm which pin is controlled by your switch, then just cut and splice into the wire on the Y-adapter rather than buggering up your factory harness.

I think you're right about the parts catalogue generally, but the description says it's for later model Sportsters, Dynas, and Softails. If it had said earlier model tourers, I'd probably have given it a shot.
