Default 2003 Electra Glide Std

Hello, I am new here and have a unique question. (I think) I have a 2003 Electra Glide Standard that the original owner customized to look like a Street Glide. The inner fairing is broken and I was wondering if the 58497-08A for '08 to '13 will replace the 58497-96B for '03 to '07.
Thank you.

I don't know for sure, but most likely they are not interchangeable...

They have the same part number, but a totally different suffix year.

That could mean a minor change, or a major change... either way it would most likely need some modifications to fit. You won't know if it needs a small modification, or a major one unless you have both parts in your hand and you can inspect them and take measurements.

Usually....

Under the old, hyphenated part numbers.... A part with the same part number and suffix number, but a different suffix letter, were usually interchangeable. Like part numbers #58497-08 and #58497-08A. The different letter can mean a change in vendor, and/or an update (improvement) to the part.

However, usually if the part number is the same, but the suffix number (the year it was introduced) is different, it is because there was a change in the part number that makes it incompatible with the previous part number with a different number suffix.

This is not an absolute, but usually the way it worked with the older, hyphenated part numbers.

In your specific case, the inner fairing #58497-96B was used on bat wing fairings from 1996 through 2007...

Then in 2008, a change was made that caused them to change the suffix number to "08", on inner fairing #58497-08. It could be anything from a slightly different mount and/or gauge pod array, or a complete redesign of the mounting system and/or gauge pod array.

Make sure you do a thorough inspection of both parts before trying to make the switch....

Good luck and let us know what you choose to do and/or find out about the two inner fairings....

This may not be a big help, but go to Ronnie's Harley Davidson and check out the parts schematic for each year. Just see what they look like and check the parts numbers of the parts that attach to the inner fairing.

I used to have an 04 batwing as well as an 08 batwing. IIRC, the difference I noticed was the side fairing wind deflectors had four mounting holes on the 08 instead of three on the earlier ones (if you even had them, otherwise they are plugged). That said, many aftermarket sites list fitting the same up to 2013 as the ‘14 Rushmore began a major change.

Thanks to everyone. I will check back at Ronnie's and look to see what all mounts and where and how.

Thanks
Todd
