Haven’t seen anything specifically relating to this and also not something I would expect many to even do. So I’m curious- the stock speakers are underpowered, and they’re just a weak link in the system as well. However, adding an amplifier to the system(say a stinger spx700x4 that is mentioned frequently for budget friendly builds. Would the stock speakers come to life and deliver drastically better sound or would they just have some more range and no real loudness improvements? Stock speakers meaning fairing and tourpack speakers.
Amps on order- winter servicing is under way and figured I’d get the amp in while I ponder my speaker option/final decision on what to go with. But curious due to the simplicity if I waited til riding season to hear other bikes to find a speaker i really like if the stocks could do the job better with the amp in the meantime.
Pretty common question, nope the stock speakers won't get much if any better.
And I would add that the speakers aren't "underpowered" (they're just cheap), the system is. So if you add an amp without upgrading the speakers it will sound like crap, and if you upgrade the speakers without adding an amp it will sound like crap so you need to do both.
There really is no inexpensive modest upgrade, it's either $0 or $2000+
I'm always amazed why people worry about sound "quality" on a motorcycle. At road speeds all I mainly hear is the road, wind and my own engine's noise.
I suppose if you're prone to stopping and parking somewhere to crank up your tunes...I get it but for me there's no "fidelity" when riding....JUST VOLUME.....lol
I went with the Boom Stage II upgraded speakers and amp when I purchased my 2018 Ultra Limited new. It sounded really good vs the basic factory system but then again, they threw it in for free when I purchased the bike. The system will definitely benefit from a new amp and speakers. And yes, the stock speakers will suck no matter what.
