It was a beautiful sunny day in New England this weekend and few of us took a ride on roads west of Boston. The wind was a little gusty, about 15-25 mph. My question is as i was shifting through the gears, i noticed a little more vibration in engine than i remembered and was wondering if the gusty winds can cause that extra vibration? I have ridden through winds stronger and don't recall the extra vibration, or am i just imagining it?
Thanks RetiredTed.I should have mentioned before i ride an 06 Road King Classic. Don't know if that makes a difference or if anyone has experienced anything similar.
I haven't experienced it on the SG, and much of my riding is across Kansas/Oklahoma for work. You know, where wind lives.
My old sporty with a windshield did shake a bit in the wind sometimes but that vibration was transferred from the windshield to the forks/bars.
Just got back from a one hour ride on a sunny day with wind gusts near 30mph and i did notice some additional vibration when accelerating into the wind on my 2007 Street Glide. Once up to speed, no vibration so maybe the additional wind load combined with shifting and clutch work causes vibs?
There was a post on yesterday that was saying that the brackets on the fairing have been breaking and that may be something to consider. It may just feel like the engine, yet be a fairing vibration.
I have the same bike and also live around Boston and did a 300 mile ride today. I think the wind you feel is more from the windshield than anything else. I've never noticed this and I definitely don't get any more engine vibration than normal from the wind.
I went over Jamestown and Newport RI , bridges today, man it was windy and yes it blows the bike side to side thats for sure. Alot less windy towards Boston, I live 20 minutes to the south.
Anytime you feel a wobble or something does not feel right , check it out....ya only got 2 wheels......
