I won't swing from the nuts of any certain company as there are many good options. But the saying, "buy once, cry once" comes to mind. Over the years I've avoided buying certain things to "save money". And what happens? I buy junk, such as battery powered gloves, and end up spending MORE money to buy what I should have gotten in the first place.
Even if you have to wait for another paycheck or two to roll in, I'd strongly consider gloves powered by a harness/motorcycle battery.
I've had a pair of highway 21 battery powered gloves for going on 5 years now. Of course I only use them spring and fall so they're not getting full seasons of use but they have seen quite a few miles. I have the same set of batteries that came with it that I use as a back up pair because I brought new batteries thinking I had a bad battery but it was a broken wire in the wiring in the glove. I was able to solder the wire back together and it's been good for a year so far. They're decent gloves but limited by how long you can use them before the batteries are dead. If I'm going all day I'll bring both sets and I've only had cold hands once on a ride. Do I regret buying them? Definitely not because it's simple to go between different motorcycles if own more than one. Plug ins would certainly eliminate any problems with running out of battery life. It's like anything you need to figure out what you want or need then get what will work the best for you. One more thing that I've done that won't work with a Plug in pair...I've used them while snowblowing...takes a little of the suck out of it.
Just to add....I have been using Gerbing Jacket liner, pant liner, Gloves and socks for 10+ years and it still working flawlessly. Top notch product. Gloves do not get scorching hot but just warm enough.
Recently bought jacket, pant heated base layer from Warmn Safe because I felt Gerbing liners were bulky. I love how base layer sits next to skin and top it off with Goretex/Enduro jacket - pants and I'm done. No more bulky winter attire looking like a michelin man .

I've had issues with Gerbing but the Warm N Safe gear has been great for me. And you nailed it. Heated garments as base layers work better and minimize bulk.
