Default Rear Tire removal

I have an 07 Ultra and am thinking of putting the IDS on it. My question is it safe to use only the Sears yellow jack to change it or do I need a stand? I have never taken a rear wheel off before on a bike. Any advice on how to do it? I do have the mainteance manual.

Used many bike lifts to pull the rear wheel... Just make sure your tie-downs are set right & TIGHT

I drilled and taped four holes in the outside corners of my jack to clamp the frame to the jack.Like the boys mentioned above.Take the weight of either wheel off, and the bike will fall off the jack.

I have a lift I've had for 10 years, not a Sears, and I've never had a problem removing either wheel without support on the other end. In fact, this lift has no tie-down straps at all. I do use a hydraulic car jack under the wheel I'm removing, which is handy to lower the wheel in a controlled manner when the axle is removed, but balance with either or both wheels removed is never a problem.

I have the Red Sears Jack and it works great.
I have never used the straps and have never had any problems with my Road King wanting to fall off. I Wouldn't want to move the jack around in the garage with the wheels off but it's pretty stable just sitting on the stand with out moving it around. My opinion straping the bike down just to change the tires is over kill. But hey it's your jack and your Motorcycle.

i usually put the bike on the front porch so i can hang the tire where it's high off the ground for clearance. i use a ratchet strap to lower and then later to raise the wheel for reinstallation.
