Default Oil Useage

I have a 2005 Road king classic. Picked up this bike new and put on 7500 miles on it.
The prolblem I am having is that it is using about 1 quart every 1200 miles. The dealer has alredy did the heads and valve seals. I keep taking it back to them. Now they say that they will pull the jugs and look at them. Dose anybody have this problem?[:@]

I have an 05 FLHRI Road King. Did 3,500 miles in one week going to Sturgis and back and used no oil. I have seen postings where some bikes use oil.

Dogquartz,

I never checked my oil level until around 500 miles and it was 1/2 quart down. I brought it up to where it needs to be and will check again at 1000 miles. Maybe it burnt it, maybe the dealer was tight with their oil. I'm hoping its the latter.

Hope this helps...

My 05 Classic uses a quart every 1300 to 1400 miles. Several dealers have said "it's normal". BS. The last dealer said it's a little high and to bring it in. I haven't had time but it IS going after Christmas. The rear plug looks dirty but the front plug looks pretty good. They are going to run compression check and check the valve seals. A friend has an 06 and no oil consumption at all. Keep bitching!!

I'm riding an '05 RKC and at 2800 miles, it hasn't used a drop. I have heard of problems, so I do try to check before every ride.

Good luck with the dealer.

I have an early '05 Road king. The bike started using a bit of oil about 3/4 quart in 1000 miles. The front plug was nice and clean, bu the rear plug was black crusty. the dealer put in the new orange valve stem seals and all was fixed.

My 05 Roadking is a the dealer having the seal replaced. Mine also has a little over 7000 miles, but of course I don't have the bike back so I won't know if it worked for awhile. I am in Buffalo, and we currently have snow on the ground, so no riding for a bit.

Keep us informed on what they find if you would be so kind just in case it happens to somebody else.

i don't know why you are loosing so much oil but the main reason on a new machine is not warming up first then throttleing up hard. my 97 never looses any thing you could read on a stick and i change it evry 1500 miles.ask the dealer to fix it, you spent alot of coin get the machine you wanted fixed or tell them to replace it.

My 05 FLHTCUI is in the shop now for oil usage and fouled plugs. I got it new year's eve and I first noticed the fouled plugs on the TX HOG rally run in May. It then started fouling plugs on all my trips. Using OIL on all my trips. Dealer kept saying I was burning bad gas. Then they said it was normal for it to use a quart each 1200 miles. I said bullshit to both. Finally two weeks ago they said brin it in. It's been there eversince. Seems Harley knows of a set of bad valve seats or something like that. They haven't issued a recall just waiting for the poor owners to raise enough hell and then the local shop fixes it free.

I don't mind the problem but I wish they had owned up to it earlier and not put the fault on me.

this is the problem, the dealer not only makes alot of profit but then if they correct a problem the big shots at HD pay them to fix it.the problem is they would rather you pay because you pay better, and if you think this is hog wash just ask the dealer and look at his face. when i had a big problem at suffolk HD then called them on it and then 3 of my friends were leaving as customers with me they knew then it was a problem and do you know who cared the mechanic and the parts guy who were by the way super people.so if you go out and shell out 15- 25 grand on a bike thats new make a big deal about it , make them fix it . if you took it from the dealer he would be crying up and down and the dealer (owner) is a wealthy guy.just my thoughts.
