I catch some grief for wearing a race class full face on long interstate trips. But the aerodynamics of the helmet really matter. The chinstrap should be tight, and so should the helmet. Most people run a size too big. A good fit should leave lines in your face. Uncomfortable at first, but you get accustomed to it pretty quick. Sadly, you'll still have your head pushed around a little. Just part of it.
LOL...to me a race class helmet is custom fitted helmet that the pros use. Is your helmet custom fitted or off the rack? Or just a brand (Simpson?) that makes the professional helmets?
I use a Shoei RJ platinum R as a daily and a Neotec II for cold or rain riding or on long trips.
A couple of you have mentioned Shoei helmets. On Cycle Gear the Neotecs start at $900 then add a Cardo or Sena and you are well over $1000! Is it really going to be an $800+ improvement over my current helmets?
Like I stated earlier, when I spend money like that on a mod, Im almost always disappointed in the results.

Really just the intended use as advertised. Aerodynamics, weight, view port angle, etc. are real difference makers when you've experienced the difference. Many manufacturers class their full face lines as street and race. For example, my current helmet is a Shoei X14 (current offering is the X15). When you compare it to the next helmet in their line, the RF1400, you can see the differences. As far as custom fit, even the MotoAmerica guys don't get that. The GP guys might, but the rest of us are off the shelf. The higher end helmets do offer different cheek and cap liners to customize fit, and Arai offers different base shapes. Strap on a $1000 Shark helmet and then a $200 Ruroc and you'll know the difference.
The harley site said the fangs would not fit my 2012 ultra. I ordered a set for a same year Road King since the mounting bolts would be the same.. Harley is WRONG! They fit up just fine and dramatically reduced the buffeting.
