On the interstate I usually do 10-12 over. Maybe 15 if the flow of traffic is moving expeditiously. On state roads, there are times I may sneak close to 70 in a 55. Just depends on how dense traffic is and how open the road is. But usually, 8-10 over on state roads.
On the interstate I've passed police officers who were doing maybe 75 in a 70, and I was squeaking by around 78, give or take. As long as I'm not doing anything "too stupid" I've had no issues dialing up the speed a little bit. Hell, on some of the interstates here in Indiana, doing 80 in a 70 will get you lapped. Maybe it doesn't make a difference in the grand scheme of things but I ride closer to the speed limit in the evenings. Maybe the extra split second of reaction time will matter at some point.
On the freeway I set the cruise for about 8 over the posted speed. Backroads I like to hit the twisties hard so I consider the condition of the roads. So it varies. I don't care how long it takes me to get somewhere, I'm pretty casual most of the time.
Old 96 checking back in here. I ride like most every one else that chimed in here. But. This cat blew my mind. 100 MPH though deer infested Piney Woods with a lady packing. A bad *** storm was brewing about 20 miles ahead right over my town. Lighting blowing up the sky. As soon I got home It came a turd floater. Don't know if that was the reason. Trying to out run the storm. Or. Some emergency. Anyway. Where ever that dude and his lady are. If they still be rolling two wheels. They have my utmost respect.
Like most here it seems - daytime interstate, cruise at 5-7 over with maybe an occasional bump to 90 to get around trucks or whatever. 2 lane backroads, speed limit or less. Going through a small town - 3-4 under the limit.
I travel the speed limit to +5 over. I spend very little time on the superslab, preferring secondary backroads and I ain't in no hurry to get anywhere.

I like to keep my RPM at or below 3000, above that it just sucks fuel andi only find I save about 5 to 15 minutes on my destination so not worth it. 3000 revs , my engine seems to just run where its optimal.
