My bike seemed to be cranking slower a few weeks ago. I called the H-D dealer to make sure the battery was in stock before going out there. It wasn't in stock, I didn't ask for him to order.

I remember many on this forum liked the Yuasa, I got on that website to find the recomended battery number to order. The website has a "retail dealer finder", and saw there is a powersports store real close to me. It's a boat, UTV, Yamaha etc dealer. I called, and they had the one I need in stock. They gave me a Vets discount, and was a lower price than I could find online.

Just saying to try other powersport places, if you get a bad one, you can take it back. Also, it was ready to go with the acid, and charged.

As you say you can hear it slowing down. Often there is signs, and you know when its coming. Year before I rode one all summer I knew was dying, not sure why. That December moving it around in and starting a few times just died. I had some issues with the bike and it wasn't get rode a lot that year.

Put that battery in a lawn mower and will get a few more years. Unfortunately my newer mower takes fancy batteries and harley won't fit.
Well it's been 10 days off the tender just sitting , still getting 12.74 vdc on my multi meter , cranked it over and started it 4 times , had that normal first crank hesitation , dropped to about 9.9 vdc at the lowest out of 4 times while cranking , 14.1 running , 12.72 turned off , no problem starting though , thats saying something for a 7 year old battery , but the new ones here and I have battery trust issues so . . . . guess I'm putting it in.

Off a tender for 10 days and still starts is a good load test to me. But doesn't guarantee internals that could fail with its age. But you already have the new battery.

10 days of the tender is not a good load test. It's a good internal leakage / amp-hour test.. Generally you should do both..

I dunno, if a bike off a charge for 10 days starts, It will probably start tomorrow. What do you want, besides starting?

Might make a big difference if you started the bike at 3 in the afternoon after sitting 10 days and later had to start it at 6 in the morning.

Yesterday I replaced the battery. It turns out the battery that was in the bike was an almost 7 year old Deka, 400 CCA. Replaced it with a new Yuasa GYZ32HL 500 CCA. OMG, what a difference! It spun the 110 over like nothing, and the bike started instantly! The old Deka would still start the bike, but just barely. That said, I would say that the Deka did it's job, being almost 7 years old, not too shabby.

The bigger engines probably shorten battery life or at least reveal it

After boring to 103, I am curious.
