Default When did the MOCO change the tour pack?

I have a 2007 tour pack and a 2018 tour pack. The 2007 is taller than the 2018. Not that it matters. Just that I can pack more **** into the 2007 TourPak. Any HD historians shed any light?

I believe they changed with the Rushmore update in 2014.

H-D swears the "new" tour pak hold more than the pre-2014 ones.

I think you just saved me some money. I have a police style aftermarket trunk on my 2024 FLHP, and I have been looking at old style King Tour Paks, which as you’ve observed, wouldn’t work well with said "toilet handle” saddle bags on my bike.

I've got a '98 king tourpack on my 2022 street glide. Works great.

For those interested, here's the dimensions of the old vs new TP. Main difference is the new has a more angled front for better passenger comfort. The difference is not much for the king TP and none for the chopped, per H-D dimensions. This is from the 2020 H-D Parts catalog.

Though you were going to ask the real question, and that would be when they stop making the bags/packs out the stronger SMC resin, and went to the ABS plastic that is not as strong, around 2000. HD will state that it was to save weight, but lets face it, bikes are already a brick to begin with, and the reason is was done, was to value engineer for production cost savings which was never passed on to the buyers.

To tell the difference, just look at one cracked, and the one without fibers showing at the crack, will be the ABS plastic. Also to point out, not hard to repair smc, while on ABS plastic, can do the wire welding trick to reinforce the crack, then plastic welding to fill the crack seam, but the abs will not be as strong as it once was.

I have only done real world test with mine. I know for a fact that I can put more stuff in early trunk that the later one And. Have room left over.. When I get home I will take a scientific evaluation with my calibrated 16' Lufkin Tape measure.
