IMO a windshield is not comparable to fairing. I have FLHR and two batwings. Especially morning and evening riding, or rain
Yeah I would have no interest at this point in riding a motorcycle without at least the windshield. Too fatiguing.
My Electra Glide came with a shortened windshield just 8 in. At 75 on the freeway I'm like a bobble head with the wind hitting the top of my helmet.
I just ordered one of those hokey clamp-on windshield extenders. Adjustable just to see how tall a windshield I really want.
It's not much of a fashion statement.
Here's hoping it doesn't break apart in my face along with my faring windshield that it's clamped to.

I like looking through windshield, many don't. The problem with this is on dewey nights you have to crane your neck over, I keep my windshields clean and carry cleaner. On one bike few years ago I tried a shorter windshield, maybe 8 or 9, I don't have a problem with wind. But I do think it is worse in the rain

You will find that the buffetting air comes from down below, actually. Right under the tank. That little add-on you bought will go in the "tried that" parts pile. We all have one.

Yeah it's already in that pile.
Just a couple of rides. It's OK at best but ..
I just wanted to see how high a windshield I really want and that showed me it's 13 in - the OEM stock one.
The windshield I have is only 8 in.
It was just $25, My new windshield's going to be 160.
Maybe I'll put it on my Honda
Good to know Hoyt, I do do that too.
And I think I probably wasn't too clear with why I want a gear indicator. It's not shifting up through the gears and having to rely on technology.
Or even downshifting really. Both ways I know what gear I should be in by the feel.
It's just 50 years I'm riding Hondas mostly with gear indicators - yeah they heading back then - when I'm starting my turn through a 90° corner it's just nice to glance down and see yeah I'm in second gear.
Im pretty much the same. Ill be riding along getting ready to lean into the turn and my brain goes you were in third, right? just as I downshift into what Im pretty positive is going to be second. The newer bikes (mine is a 14) shows each gear you are in unless you have the clutch pulled in, then its blank. Sometimes as Im going from 3rd to 2nd Ill see the indicator jump to 6th.

Hmmm I hated that stock windshield, ended with a short tinted cheapo one from Amazon & like it just fine. Thought I'd put the stock back on for trips but I went to Colorado Springs with the short one & half helmet with flip down visor & it was fine. I dont like having to look through the stock one, just distorts your vision a tad.
So... Has anyone installed one of these?
Koso
Says it will fit most touring models
including my 2008 Electra Glide Ultra Classic plug and Play. They had a half off sale and it's still $90 plus $20 shipping.
Kinda pricey but I wouldn't mind having that. 1st Intruder I had was a 4 speed, 800cc. Then went to a 1400cc that was a 5 speed. My 1500LC is a 5 speed, the SV1000S is a 6 speed & my UC. Call me lazy or whatever but I get lost between 3rd & 5th at times too. I like the 6th gear indicator for sure, the SV doesn't show any gears.
I've posted this before but it's worth a repeat. This only works if you have a tach.
Compare your speed with the RPM's at 2000. 2000 at 30 mph = 3rd. 2000 at 40 mph = 4th. And repeats as you go up the gears. This works for my 2006 Ultra. If you're just above 2000 and just above 60 mph don't grab for another gear 'cause there ain't one!
